Entertainment is getting shorter. Stories aren't.
Shorter formats change the packaging. They do not change what makes people stay.
Every few years the runtime shrinks and someone announces the death of narrative. Then a ten-minute episode holds an audience the way a fifty-minute one used to, and it becomes obvious that length was never the variable.
What changes is where the story has to declare itself. Sooner, and with less apparatus.
